Families First
New York is Proud and Strong....
but we need to maintain our
Health, Safety & Welfare
for our families.
Government is putting Dollars before our Families.
What Insanity!
New York Politicians betrayed us
they legalized pot to become the Biggest Drug Cartel in the World!

Governor Mario Cuomo knew the dangers of drugs to the family in 1983.
He Commissioned the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) and Report to fight the scourge of drug abuse in New York.
He Commissioned the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) and Report to fight the scourge of drug abuse in New York.
New York State
Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature has done it.
They have effectively passed the most liberal marijuana Legalization Bill
in the United States.
Marijuana is now:
~ Legal ~
~ Readily Accessible to Youth ~
~ Can be delivered to your home ~
~ Will cause untold levels of mental illness ~
~ Will cause untold levels of addiction ~
~ Is especially harmful to Communities of Color ~
Governor Cuomo signed the Marijuana Taxation and Regulation Act legislation on March 31st, 2021. It legalizes the sale and possession of marijuana for recreational use, for anyone over the age of 21. Effective immediately, it is no longer a crime or violation to possess up to three ounces of marijuana in New York, (although the sale and on-site consumption sales of marijuana cannot begin until April 1, 2022.)
Legalization was passed DESPITE opposition from:
- The NYS PTA (opposed to legalization);
- The Medical Society of the State of New York (opposed to legalization);
- The 57 NYS County Public Health Commissioners (opposed);
- The Addictions Professionals are against Legalization;
- The New York Law Enforcement Agencies are against Legalization;
- The NYS District Attorneys are against it;
- Family Advocates are against it;
- The Roman Catholic Church - and many Churches - are against Legalization;
- School Administrators and School Boards;
- Social Workers and Human Service Professionals;
- City and County governments;
- Parents and Grandparents;
- and many national groups such as the American Medical Association (AMA), National Families
in Action, Parents Against Pot, Americans Against Legalizing Marijuana (AALM), Smart Approaches
to Marijuana (SAM), etc., are opposed to legalization AND they caution that cannabis use should
be actively discouraged.
Even the Surgeon General released a report adding to the mounting body of scientific evidence highlighting the physical, mental and social dangers of marijuana use.
If you are a parent or grandparent you need to be concerned. If you care about the Health, Safety and Welfare of our families, you need to be very concerned.
By the way, the Washington Times reported that the majority of funding for the pro-legalization efforts was provided by George Soros through a network of not-for-profit groups, and he has spent over $80 million from his foundation's funds on the legalization efforts. Just follow the money… and check out which politicians received cash for their political campaigns, Governor Cuomo being among the biggest receiver of cannabis dollars.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
The Partnership for a Drug-Free New York, want to strongly encourage our city and county governments to “Opt Out” of the state Marijuana Legalization Sales legislation.
DO NOT allow the sale of marijuana in your region. OPT OUT of the state legalization paradigm.
You have until December 31st, 2021 to ban retail sales adn public use in your localities.

In states which have legalized marijuana, hundreds of cities and counties and communities have “opted out”, of retail sales.
~ In California, 354 towns, cities and counties have banned it;
~ 75 percent of cities and counties in Michigan have banned marijuana sales;
~ more than 200 Massachusetts cities and towns have banned or delayed marijuana sales;
~ some 65 percent of cities and counties in Colorado have banned any marijuana stores in their communities; etc.
And several communities in New York State have already stipulated that they will not allow it in their localities. The People know what drug use does to their families and communities, and DO NOT want legalized sales in their communities!
Please note that it is the politicians and the large Cannabis Corporations who are calling for legalization. Again, the people did not want it. By the way, the Washington Times reported that the majority of funding for the pro-legalization efforts was provided by George Soros through a network of not-for-profit groups, and he has spent over $80 million from his foundation's funds on the legalization efforts. DOES IT MAKE ANY SENSE TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA.... IF:
~ New York already has a major problem with Homelessness...
~ New York already has a problem with Child Abuse and Neglect...
~ New York already has a major problem with Depression and Suicide...
~ New York already has a major problem with Mental Illness...
~ New York already has a problem with Emergency Rooms that run full and over-capacity...
~ New York already has a problem with D.W.I. and D.U.I....
~ New York already has a high level of academic under-achievement and faltering schools...
~ This translates into more youth using drugs and becoming cannabis-dependent...
~ New York already has a very high rate of Addiction problems...
~ If New York already has a major problem with the Chronically Unemployed...
~ If this will cause extreme difficulties for employers and business and industry...
~ If this will cause even more broken and dysfunctional families?
Legalization is Contra-indicated for a happy, healthy and Safe Society! OPT-OUT!

(1) The American Medical Association (AMA)
adopted a position AGAINST the Legalization of Marijuana!
The AMA said:
- that Cannabis was a dangerous drug…
- it has an inherently high potential for abuse….
- that we should actively discourage use....
- and they recommended that people do not use marijuana!
The AMA said: Do NOT Legalize Marijuana!

(2) The American Psychiatric Association (APA):
After a 12 year field study, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) found that:
a) Eight psychiatric mental disorders were caused by cannabis use, including:
- Anxiety Disorders;
- Depression;
- Bipolar Disorder;
- Schizophrenia;
- Amotivational Syndrome;
- Disruptive Cognitive Functioning;
- Neuropsychological Decline; and,
- Psychotic Disorders.
b) The APA also identified four primary cannabis-induced physical disorders:
- Lung Damage;
- Heart Disease;
- Cancer; and,
- Pregnancy Complications.
c) And in terms of Comorbidity:
The APA found that between 50% and 90% of cannabis-dependent persons
are diagnosed with an affective disorder, suicidality, or an anxiety disorder;
and cannabis use is associated wth poorer life satisfaction, increased mental
health treatment and hospitalization, and higher rates of depression,
anxiety disorders, suicide attempts and conduct disorder.
d) The APA also found that cannabis use is highly related to
- other secondary substance use disorders (74%),
- and is often quite commonly found with
- major depressive disorders (11%),
- and anti-social (30%),
- obsessive-compulsive (19%),
- and paranoid (18%) personality disorders.
Again, by definition, the APA found that cannabis is a dangerous drug and
this research has been confirmed by numerous studies through the National
Institute of Drug Abuse, all of which clearly demonstrate not just correlation
but causation between marijuana use and mental disorders.

(3) Addiction
Marijuana is not just a dangerous drug... it is a powerful and addictive drug!
And now with marijuana products having THC content as high as 90%,
it makes the drug even more dangerous and addictive.
Marijuana does not have the THC content of 1-to-3% as it had in the sixties. It now has an
average of 30% THC with edibles averaging 68%, and some products as high as 90%
depending upon the type.
"Kids are going nuclear."
Even the New York Department of Public Health in their assessment
said that from 9-to-30 percent of users can become cannabis dependent!
Think about it! Up to 30 percent of users can become ADDICTED!
And as the DOH reported, "with legalization there will be at least 1.3 million marijuana
consumers" (with tens-of-thousands more in the future).
By our own state study this can produce a health disaster of the highest consequence!

(4) To Our Legislators: Marijuana Legalization simply doesn't make any sense:

Even the Surgeon General released a report adding to the mounting body of scientific evidence
highlighting the physical, mental and social dangers of marijuana use.
The Alcohol Industry, Big Tobacco, and Big Pharma have killed more people than cancer, diabetes
and heart disease combined. Do NOT add Big Marijuana to this list.
Our families cannot suffer anymore drug-related dysfunction.
Do NOT legalize marijuana!

Partnership for a Drug-Free New York
The Partnership for a Drug-Free New York is a group of concerned families, friends and organizational supporters that are striving to protect our Families from the devastation of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Abuse.
We are not a "political group", however, have become very concerned in that our governor and several of our legislators have refused to acknowledge the true consequences of abuse and addiction, and have consistently failed to support our concerns that we have brought them in Albany... ... in fact, they are insistent on legalizing another mood-modifying, mind-altering, powerful, drug of addiction! Please join us as a Partner - i.e., a supporter - there are no fees or dues or membership requirements..... just a Common Sense Approach to Drug Abuse! The legalization of another Drug of Addiction
IS UNACCEPTABLE! |
